Animals with Scratchboard

The first 5 weeks are spent drawing animals and the last 3-4 weeks student draw on a 5″ x 7″ scratchboard. Kids and animals go together making this a fun class. Each week students receive a handout (see example on right below). The weekly breakdown is:

  1. Shape Up ! – Identifying general and compund shapesanimal-handout
  2. Birds of a Feather – drawing specific bird characteristics
  3. Negative Thinking – an introductio to black scratchboard
  4. Beyond Shapes – exploring textures with pencil & scratchboard
  5. Lions, Dolphins & Bats, oh my! – Reviewing more animals
  6. Drawing the Line – real tools for real scratchboards
  7. Transference – from pencil to scratchboard
  8. It’s okay to Scratch! – Thinking opposite to achieve values
  9. Rendering the finished product – cleanliness still matters in black
  10. Fine ! – two projects done!
