Drawing Faces

Dakota Warrior – graphite by Holly Yordy

Before there were cellphones, before there were movies, before there were cameras- there was the artist.  These skilled individuals captured loved ones in miniatures hung on walls and necklaces. They also faced severe punishment if royal families didn’t like  the end results. The portrait artist was the original photoshop creator (for self preservation and more commissions, probably).  A very fascinating account of royalty tricked by the artist’s hands can be found in Carlyn Beccia’s website called “The Raucous Royals”. The Mona Lisa is probably the most famous painting to date. Look on the internet today and you can find incredible examples of portrait art in oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, color pencil, graphite, encaustic painting and the list goes on.
