My love for horses started my career into the art scene. Here are some selections of drawings and studies done covering many animals. Most all are in graphite and a few in color.  Commissioned work  from photos are welcomed.

The Morab (20″x16″ graphite) The Morab consists of at least 1/4 part of only two breeds, the Arabian and the Morgan.

Prairie Punchers
Suffolk Punch draft horses were smaller than the Belgian, requiring less feed but still capable of cutting sod with a plow. Original, pencil on tinted paper. 18″ x 22″

“Farmhouse Hospitality”
I saw this picture in the magazine “Reminisce” and just had to render it on paper. With my present experience on animals, I can’t image dogs, cats and a chicken drinking together!” Original, graphite 12″ x 9″

December 2023 update

During the 2020-2022 turmoil (and before I adpted my darling demon Della puppy) my pencil was busy with drawing Lakota Indian portraits. I still had to squeeze a horse drawing in the mix and honoring the underappreciated draft horse was my first priority. Here the theme is the tractor pull. I decided not to focus on the crowds, handler or anything else. Instead, the horses and harness trapping, dust and blocks were the only things that needed attention. This graphite measures 16″ by 14″ unmatted/framed.
